Editing the Headline and Text of an Article

Many of our reporting options allow you to include the headline of the article and a snippet of text in the report. If you would like to modify the auto-generated text to text of your choosing, follow the instructions here.

NOTE: Your username must be set to a System Administrator in order to see this capability.

Next to the text snippet and headline you will see a Pencil icon as detailed in the image to the right. If the pencil icon is blue, the headline or snippet can be edited.

However, for content from Lexis Nexis, Twitter, and CEDROM, the Pencil icon will be gray indicating that the content is not editable due to copyright requirements.

In the example below, the Pencil option in grey indicates that headline and text snippet for the clip from LexisNexis cannot be edited.

Editing Headline and Snippet Text:

  1. To edit the text of a headline, click on the blue pencil icon next to the headline.

  2. You can change the headline to your desired text and click Save. Once you click Save the new headline will now appear in the system as well as be updated in any reporting that you do.

NOTE: Once you click Save, there is no way to revert back to the original headline.

  3. If the snippet is editable and has a blue pencil icon, you are also able to change the text snippet. In order to change the text snippet, you will need to click on the blue pencil icon next to the Text field.

  4. Once you select it, you will get the following pop up.

  5. Once you have updated the text, click Save.

NOTE: The snippet that will generate in any report will be anywhere from 130-140 characters.

Modifying Tone for Media Clips

While the Cision Communications Cloud will Tone your News Items as they come into your system, you have the ability to change the Tone. You can change the Overall Tone of an individual clip or for several clips at a time (in bulk). This bulk feature can be especially helpful if you have items with similar content coming in and you want to change the Tone for all of them at one time. Finally, if you have Advanced Analytics, you can change the Tone if your Company’s specific mentions within the News Item.

Viewing the Overall Tone of an Individual Clip

  1. To view the Overall Tone of an individual clip, you will need to use the Profile View of your coverage.

  2. By default, the Overall Tone that you see in the clip details panel is the system- applied Tone.

To Change the Overall Tone of a Single Clip

  1. Select the Clip(s) for which you would like to change the Tone.

  2. Click on the Edit button and select Modify Tone.

  3. Select the desired Tone.

  4. Click the Save button.

Changing the Overall Tone of Multiple News Items In Bulk

Changing the Overall Tone of multiple News Items can be very helpful if you want to change the Tone of multiple clips with similar content.

  1. You can use either the Profile or Grid View.

NOTE: The following image is using the Grid View, while the above images use the Profile View.

  2. Check the News Items for which you want to change the Tone.

NOTE: You have the ability to check individual items or all items using the top checkbox.

  3. Click the Edit button and select the Modify Tone option.

  4. Click on the Upside-Down Triangle in the Tone box and select the desired Tone.

  5. Click the Save button.
