How Do I Set Up Multi-Step Verification for my Cision Communications Cloud Account?

Information on multi-step verification

Written by Cision

Additional security in the form of multi-step authentication has been automatically added to Cision Communications Cloud accounts that have PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On as a feature within their system. To submit a PRNewswire wire release on behalf of your organization, you have to be specifically authorized per PRNewswire to do so. This extra layer of security is to ensure that only authorized users can access the PRNewswire Online Member Center via Single Sign-On from within the Cision Communications Cloud. Multi-step authentication ensures that all users of a Cision Communications Cloud account verify their Cision login credentials initially and then every 30 days afterward. When this feature is turned on in your Cision Communications Cloud, you will receive notification in from Cision. The initial notification will be sent via email and will have a vital Cision Activation Code that you will use to initially verify your account.

What Multi-Step Authentication Looks Like

If multi-step authentication has been added to your Cision Communications Cloud account, there will be an additional authentication step presented as part of your login process.

It is important to note that this additional step will not be present every time you log into Cision. Rather, this step is only present for the following scenarios:

  • It is the first time you are logging into the Cision Communication Cloud since multi-step authentication has been turned on in your account.

  • It is the first time you have logged into Cision on a new device since multi-step authentication has been turned on in your account.

  • You have cleared your browser cache since initially authenticating your Cision credentials. You are logging into Cision using a different browser that was used to last verify your account using a multi-step authentication code.

  • It has been 30 days since you last verified your Cision Communications Cloud credentials.

Once multi-step authentication has been turned on in your account:

You will Sign In to the Cision Communications Cloud as you have in the past by entering your Company, Username, and Password.

A new Welcome step will be presented asking for a Cision Activation Code. You will want to enter your Cision Activation Code in the field provided and then click Submit. Once an Activation Code is successfully submitted, it is valid for 30 days.

Remember that the Activation Code will be initially sent to your email prior to this feature being turned on. Check your email for the Cision Activation Code email from Cision. If you are unable to find the Cison Activation Code email in your inbox, we recommend checking your Spam folder.

If you are unable to find the Cision Activation Code email anywhere, click the Resend Code link to have it resent to the email associated with your User account. For the recurring 30 day multi- step authentication, you will click the Resend Code link to get an update Activation Code.

Is Multi-Step Authentication Required?

Multi-Step Authentication is required for Cision Communications Cloud accounts that have PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On as a feature within their system. Further, Multi- Step Authentication is required for every user of a Cision Communications Cloud account with the PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On . If Multi-Step Authentication adversely affects Cision users within your organization that do not use the PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On feature, contact your Cision Account Executive who can further explain a secure alternative option which removes PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On feature from your Cision Communications Cloud account requiring your PRNewswire authorized users to access the PRNewswire Online Member Center from outside of the Cision Communications Cloud routing them through a separate authentication process.

Can I Have Multi-Step Authentication Proactively Turned On?

If your Cision Communications Cloud does not require Multi-Step Authentication be automatically be turned on because you do not have PRNewswire Online Member Center Single Sign-On, you can request that this feature be turned on if it better aligns with your organization’s security policies and practices. To request that Multi-Step Authentication be turned on in your Cision Communications Cloud account, contact your Cision Account Executive.
